'Gloucester Trade Centre of the West'
Gloucester's geographical position helped it become the Trade Centre of the West. It was the lowest river crossing with plentiful canal systems, had excellent rail, tram and road links and was nestled in the more temperate valley below the Cotswold Hills. Gloucester Heritage image.
